Our Divisions
Aerodynamics
The Aerodynamics division designs and manufactures the aero kit of the car, which improves the performance of the car. The aero kit is also very visual and, along with the Chassis, gives the car its shape, thus also becoming the esthetic expression of the car.

BESS
The Battery Energy Storage System division, or BESS for short, designs and manufactures the battery pack. The battery pack being custom made, they are responsible for the selection of the cells that will be used, as well as the mechanical structure that holds everything together that is adapted to the specific needs of the car.

Chassis
The Chassis Division designs the structure of the vehicle, as well as the seat and headrest. These elements must be light, rigid and ergonomic, as they are a large part of the car and ensure the safety and comfort of the driver. The next step for the chassis will be to develop a monocoque body!

Communication
The communication division is in charge of all public relations. This includes managing the teams different social media accounts and website and designing marketing materials like brochures and newsletters.

Driverless SOFTWARE
The Driverless Software division implements algorithms to replace the driver's brain and thus make the car 100% autonomous. In a first step, the vision and localization algorithms allow to detect the circuit and to locate itself on it. In a second step, the control algorithm calculates how to turn the steering wheel and press the pedals. We will participate in our first autonomous competition this summer 2023.

dRIVERLESS HARDWARE
For the first time, the EPFL Racing Team is building a fully autonomous race car for the 2023 season. For this purpose, the Driverless Hardware division was created. Its goal is to replace the driver’s body inputs by actuating the steering wheel and the brakes with custom-made electromechanical systems. It also maps out the environment around it using cameras, LiDAR, INS and other sensors. The main target is to have a reliable system that can last multiple years, so that the car can be used as a testing platform after 2023.

Logistics
Logistics is the process of getting, transporting and storing resources. It manages the operational spaces and warehouses. This division takes care of the members' organization during competitions and it aims to improve the stability of the whole supply chain.
Low Voltage Electronics
The Low Voltage Electronics division develops the entire on board electronics and the entire safety system of the car, from developing their own PCBs, to powering the entire low voltage system using a self developed li-ion battery. They also implement the security system throughout the vehicle.

Power electronics
The Power Electronics division is in charge of the electronic aspect of the car’s power. They manage engine control, design and implement systems to operate the car on the edge of its traction limit, which includes launch control, traction control and torque vectoring.

Sponsoring
The sponsorship division is in charge of contacting companies for the annual search for sponsors and the renewal of current sponsors. The division is the point of contact with sponsors throughout the year, discusses with them the terms of the partnership and is brought to the various events in which the association participates.

Statics
The Statics division is in charge of the implementation of the team's business plan, the elaboration of the Cost Report and the Engineering Design Report

Sustainability
The sustainability division is a new entity that focuses on the environmental footprint of the association (including a Life Cycle Assessment of the car) and the interest of our industry in the global issue of global warming.

vehicle dynamics
The Vehicle Dynamics division designs and builds the various systems that control the wheels, namely the steering, the suspensions and the braking systems. Thus, the division has to work closely with the chassis design, to ensure a solid meeting between body and suspension, and the in-wheel powertrain systems.

WheeL ASSEMBLY
The Wheel-Assembly division is responsible for the implementation of the 4-wheel drive system, a first for the team. Our work consists mainly in the design and simulation of the parts inside the wheels while trying to minimize their weight. We also take care of the gearbox design, trying to find the best balance between top speed and acceleration. Finally, we are responsible for the cooling of the motors and power inverters to prevent them from exceeding a certain temperature.
